Beach retreat or Dolomites hiking holiday - which Salt Escape is right for your summer? Here's the honest guide to choosing.
Two very different summers. Both unmistakably Salt Escapes. Choosing between a Dolomites hiking holiday and a beach fitness retreat comes down to one question - what kind of week do you actually want?

Forget gym sessions. The Dolomites Escape is a hiking retreat in Italy built around big mountain days - guided trails through some of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe. We're talking 10-16km hikes with serious elevation gain, rocky switchbacks, alpine meadows, and views that make you stop mid-sentence.
It's 4 nights and 5 days in a luxury chalet with a pool, sauna, and cold plunge waiting when you get back. The days are long but the satisfaction is different from anything a gym can give you. You earn the view. You earn the beer at the end. And the group energy pushes you on.
This isn't a beach holiday with a hike bolted on. It's a proper active summer holiday in Europe for people who want to feel genuinely challenged by the landscape, not just the workout.
On a beach retreat - whether that's Zakynthos, Ibiza, or Comporta - your days follow a rhythm. Morning workout. Yoga or recovery after. Then the afternoon means boat day, coastal hike, surf lesson, or just the pool and a book. Dinner together, sunset, repeat for six nights.
The fitness is functional, fun, and scalable to your level. Sessions are tough, but the coaches adapt everything. Between workouts, you're swimming, exploring, eating incredible food, and generally living your best Mediterranean summer.
The Dolomites flips that structure. Instead of two shorter sessions and an adventure in between, the hike IS the workout and the adventure in one. You're moving for hours - sustained effort, altitude, elevation - with the chalet as your base for proper recovery afterwards. The physical demand is different, not necessarily harder. Beach trips test you with intensity and heat. The Dolomites test you with endurance and altitude.

This is the honest bit. Both trips are adaptable, but they ask different things of your body.
The beach retreat suits you if...
You work out a few times a week and want a holiday that keeps you active without grinding you down. You like structured sessions but also want downtime. You're motivated by group energy, a great playlist, and the promise of the pool afterwards. Our coaches scale everything and the vibe is supportive, not competitive. First-timers, solo travellers, couples - the beach trips are designed for exactly this mix.
The Dolomites suit you if...
You're comfortable on your feet for long stretches. You don't need to be a seasoned mountaineer, but you should be happy hiking for several hours at a time. If you're someone who'd rather earn a viewpoint than be driven to one, who gets a kick from altitude and big landscapes - this is your trip. The fitness demand is about endurance, not gym strength. Walkers, runners, hikers, or anyone who just likes being outside for hours - you'll thrive.

Some of our guests do exactly this. A beach retreat in June or July, then the Dolomites later in the summer - or the other way around. Different physical challenges, different landscapes, but the same Salt Escapes vibe.
The Dolomites runs across July and August. Our beach retreats - Zakynthos, Ibiza, Comporta - span May through September. The calendar works if you want both. And honestly, doing a week on the coast followed by a few days in the mountains (or vice versa) gives you two completely different summers in one.
If you're torn, you probably don't have to choose. View all availability and see what lines up.
